Anti Anxiety Supplements

 


Managing anxiety can be difficult, but it is possible to ease your symptoms through lifestyle changes and supplements. These supplements work to balance neurotransmitters and hormones that may be contributing to your anxiety and can help reduce your symptoms of depression, stress, and mood disorders. Some examples of anti anxiety supplements include chamomile, lavender, valerian root, saffron, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C, curcumin, and CBD. These supplements can be used alone or with other medications, but it’s important to consult your doctor before beginning any new supplements.

The most common natural Anti anxiety supplements  are herbal and nutritional, which means they don’t interfere with your current prescriptions. Some supplements even work better than some pharmaceutical medications. Many of these supplements also have fewer side effects and can be taken for longer periods of time. They can also be a great supplement for those who don’t want to take prescription medications.

Many of the supplements on this list have been shown to help with depression and anxiety, but they’re also effective for other conditions like insomnia and PTSD. For example, valerian root (Valeriana officinalis) has been around since Greek physicians realized it had calming properties in 460 B.C. In one study, saffron was combined with magnesium and phenylalanine to reduce symptoms of anxiety in adults. Another study found that saffron combined with L-arginine reduced anxiety in children.

Another supplement that shows promise is omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential fats that can regulate neurotransmitters and hormones that contribute to stress, anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in oily fish, plant oils, and nuts. A popular supplement is Nordic Naturals ProOmega, which provides 2,000 mg of omega-3 fatty acids per 2 softgels.

The herb kava is also known to reduce anxiety and stress, but it is important to note that research on kava is inconclusive. This supplement can lead to liver damage if not taken correctly, and it’s best to avoid this herb if you have a history of liver disease or other medical conditions. Other herbs that have been used to treat anxiety are lavender, California poppy, and hawthorn berries. A French study tested a combination product called Sympathyl 22 that contains 20 mg of California poppy, 75 mg of hawthorn berry, and 500 mg of elemental magnesium and found it to be effective for treating anxiety in adults.
